Workshop at Natural Yoga, Bogotá.

When the ankles are a problem in Virasana and Supta Virasana, kneel on a blanket stack, with the toes trailing off the back edge.

It’s a wonderful thing when you get up into Full Arm Balance (Adho Mukha Vriksasana) for the first time. The next thing she has to learn: lift the inner ankles, the inner edges of the feet and the big toe mounds.

Prasarita Padottanasana (shown here with the head up). Working with a belt will help you to roll and then press the outer edges of the feet down, hit the inner knees away from each other and pull the inner thighs up into the inner groins, and back. Once learned, dispense with the belt.

Two of the themes running through my Workshop at Natural Yoga (yoga para todos en Bogotá): Elements and Koshas, and Breast Care for Everyone:

Here are some simple depictions of the subtle channels known as the nadis through which the life force (prana) circulates. On the left, the ida, pingala and the shushumna are considered the most important. On the right, the entire network of nadis extend way beyond the confines of the physical body. You can see the sun and the moon, which have their counterparts within each embodiment. You can also see the chakras.

Each portion of the sound form “Om” links to an element, a subtle element (experienced by the senses), and a vayu (vital air).

We explored a practice which promoted lymphatic drainage around the arm-pits

and breasts;

strengthened the immune system,

supported liver function,

and promoted ease and freedom in the chest,

upper back and lungs,

and shoulders.

The Botero Museum

Though he only spends one month of the year in Columbia,

Botero considers himself the “most Colombian artist living” due to his insulation from the international trends of the art world.

The Gold Museum

The Bogota Gold Museum contains close to 34,000 gold pieces, plus 20,000 bone, stone, ceramic, and textile articles belonging to 13 Pre-Hispanic societies.

Workshop in Bogota, Columbia

October 29, 2013

As soon as I landed in Bogota, my host Anna Uribe from Natural Yoga whisked me off to an orchid show. The orchid is the national flower of Columbia.

Adho Mukha Svanasana on the ropes with the head supported and hands clasped behind back. Be sure to roll the shoulders back when the arms come up and over.

My host Anna Uribe is on the left. Viparita Karani in Chair Supported Sarvangasana; make sure that the sacrum is pressed flat into the chair seat, and that the shoulders are rolled way back. Press the shoulder blades in to bring the sternum into an upright position.
